However, army spokesperson Lt Col Paddy Ankunda told Chimpreports on Tuesday that he was not informed about Kony’s alleged shooting.
“I am not aware but that would be very good news for humanity,” said Ankunda.
Kony’s war left a trail of bloodshed and destruction in Northern Uganda, DRC and CAR where he is thought to be hiding.
The reports come a time when UPDF and US soldiers are intensifying operations against the elusive and brutal warlord.
The UPDF Contingent of the African Union Regional Task Force (AURTF) in Central African Republic in April captured Lt Charles Okello, a top Lord’s Resistance Army Commander after a huge battle with UPDF commandos just 20km West of Bakuma.
This is about 500km West of Obo, UPDF’s tactical base.
Ankunda said UPDF were able to rescue ten abductees including seven children; three guns, one Walkie Talkie radio and dozens of loose ammunition.
Earlier in the week, another LRA Commander 2Lt James Onen surrendered to a UPDF detach at Zombo in Arua.
Invisible Children recently reported that the year 2013 was a significant blow to the Joseph Kony commanded Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) operations in Eastern DRC and Central African Republic.
The year saw the rebel group lose 20 percent of its Ugandan fighting forces through defection – about 32 of the 160 – which the report describe as utterly irreplaceable.
