Before you have a popular show, you must have an innovative brain behind it.
For the case of Record TV, that brain is young, passionate, energetic and, for the record, still single.
ChimpLyf recently caught up with the Katogo Show presenter, Jonah Mukundwa aka Jaxta and learnt a thing or two about working for TV.
ChimpLyf: Who is Jonathan Jaxta?
Jaxta: My real name is Jonah Mukudwa. Jonathan Jaxta is my trademark. I am presenter at Record TV and an artiste.
ChimpLyf: Maybe, a little more about you!
Jaxta: I was born in Buyobo village in Soronko district to the late Semugabi Damali and George Mafabi.
I went to Kitante Primary School, Progressive SS Kitante for O’ level and Kololo SS and Molly integrated school in Mbarara for my A’ level.
I join media immediately after school.
ChimpLyf: And the passion for TV?
Jaxta: I had a friend that I admired really a lot. The way he presented on TV at that time.
This guy was presenting a talk show on UBC.
So, after my studies, I came to Record TV and applied.
After a week, they called me for an interview and because of the confidence I exhibited, I got the job.
ChimpLyf: How was the start-up?
ChimpLyf writer, Betty Byatesa (L) interviewing Jaxta
Jaxta: I started with a kids’ show called GUIDE OF THE CURIOUS.
By that time, I was working with Abdul Mulaasi’s Son – Ricardo Omuto. This programme won second runner up award in ICD (International children’s day of broadcast) award by UNICEF.
In 2012, I switched to a show called Teens’ Show which I did perfectly.
And when Douglas left, my boss shifted me to Katogo because of my capability.
ChimpLyf: We have heard you were once an artiste. Is it true?
Jaxta: Yeah, and I am still an artiste. I have many songs, like Freaky and Personal ft Shanks Vivid.
ChimpLyf: How many albums do you have so far?
Jaxta: I have only one.
ChimpLyf: What achievements have you so far made out of music?
Jaxta: I have got friends. I am popular and have also earned respect.
ChimpLyf: Are you married?
Jaxta is single and not searching
Jaxta: Not yet but am not searching…
ChimpLyf: Who is your role model in Uganda?
Jaxta: Steve Jean of Fennon Studios and my mentor Douglas Lwanga of NTV. Douglas made me what I am today.
ChimpLyf: What are some of the biggest challenges you have so far faced in media?
Jaxta: Fitting in Douglas Lwanga’s shoes.
People insulted me at the beginning but I prayed to God and it’s amazing that all my enemies before are now my friends.
ChimpLyf: Have you ever been disappointed before?
Jaxta: Yeah….starting Katogo Show wasn’t easy.
I made many enemies…sometimes I could call artistes and they refuse to turn up.
But if you are believer in life, you always believe you are an achiever.
I’ have always prayed to God and that’s why am nominated for awards now.
ChimpLyf: From here, I can tell you use a heavy perfume?
Jaxta: I use D & G perfume.
ChimpLyf: What’s your fashion sense like?
Jaxta: I like shirts and simple jeans.
ChimpLyf: Where do you shop from?
Jaxta: I shop from Lugogo Mall and Nakawa Market.
