Nabukenya said that when President Museveni recently visited the district to iron out the grievances within the NRM party over the party flag bearer, she was made the major topic of discussion and later money began exchanging hands.
“Gen Salim Saleh has been seen giving out coffee seeds to veterans; why for God’s sake could he begin giving out seeds at this time when the people of Luweero have been ignored for a long period of time?” she queried.
“This is all aimed at bribing voters, an act that is against the guidelines which were issued by the Electoral Commission banning all fundraising functions in the district.”
Nabukenya further observed that regardless of “the sinister plans of ridging and disorganising elections”, she is ready to battle the NRM and is very optimistic to win the by-elections with a bigger margin compared to the cancelled elections.
She is confident to take on Rebecca Nalwanga, the elected NRM flag bearer.
“It is time for the people of Luweero to stand and claim for what they want; the time has come to bring out their voice; we shall not allow tax payers’ money to be wasted like that.”
Nabukenya, however, called upon all her supporters and well wishers to join her on Monday as she parades for nominations at the District Electoral Commission offices making a first step towards getting back to Parliament.
She also warned EC not to dare inflate the voters’ register in the on-going register update process saying, that her team together with the entire opposition is on guard to eliminate such acts.
