While addressing journalists at his offices in Kampala on Monday, Mbabazi said Otunnu’s claims are “baseless” and a ploy by opposition to damage the NRM government’s reputation.

“Otunnu has always made grave allegations against the NRM government reaching an extent of claiming we committed a genocide in the north yet everyone knows what took place because there was transparency,” said Mbabazi.

“Some elements complained to the ICC which carried out investigations. It was satisfied that there wasn’t anything that needed their intervention,” said Mbabazi.

The ICC, according to Mbabazi, further urged persons with information about any atrocities committed by government to be reported.

He also rubbished Otunnu’s attempts to equate NRM system as apartheid.

Addressing a gathering at the 28th NRM anniversary in Mayuge early this year, President Museveni revealed that there were serious incidents committed by UPDF which the army was ashamed of and promised to investigate deeper.
