Mulago Dismisses Staff Strike Rumour

“The delay in the paying of the salary for some medical staff has come due to the newly decentralised system of salary payment where all workers have to fill in new EFT forms which have to be submitted to ministry of Finance.”

He added that as soon as verification of these forms is done by the ministry, all the 217 workers demanding their salaries will be paid all their money not later than March 5, 2013.

“On the issue of congestion, we obtained a loan of $33m from Islamic Development Bank to construct a Neo Natal and Maternal hospital to accommodate all the women who are treated at the 5th floor so that it can act as a treatment centre for people with other health problems,” Kusasira explained.

The new hospital for females is expected to be finished within a period of two years and after this, Mulago will be strict on patients admitted and will only admit patients with serious diseases and infections which other hospitals have failed to treat.
