doctor sans-serif; font-size: small; line-height: 200%;”>The ban comes after many complaints have been reported to police, rx that the drivers of the carriers connive with police and tow vehicles even when they are in good mechanical condition.

“We have noted that after towing the vehicles police officers influence the charge, how can one pay Shs 80,000 from Bank of Uganda to Central Police?” wondered Felix Kaweesi, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander.

Kaweesi adds that a car should only be towed in case it’s not in good mechanical condition or when one cannot drive it and may be when it hinders others from using the road.

He adds that the system of towing boda bodas is not allowed, they should be just pushed to police or thrown onto a police patrol vehicle.

“I have abolished from now, break downs parking near police stations, let them be parked as by the trade order in the city and charges for towing should be determined by the service provider and the owner of the vehicle not by police,” Kaweesi said.

He reveals that at times an offense committed is solved but the car is held for towing services which were not agreed upon, by the owner.

Kaweesi warned that any police officer who puts conditions on the towing services will be arrested.
