The district Acting Agricultural Officer, Hillman Edison, advised the farmers to raise the plantlets and after growing mature at 6 months to redistribute freely to other farmers so as to increase their numbers.
Edison said the plantlets were procured in response to a call by the farmers in the district after banana bacterial wilt claimed all their banana plantations.
He advised the farmers to dig big holes of 3 metres and as deep as 3 feet to ensure the correct measurement required for their proper growth.
“If farmers follow the correct guidelines, it will yield much in not less than two years.”
Currently, banana bacterial wilt is now a threat to the districts of Bushenyi, Mitooma, Rubirizi, Rukungiri, Ntungamo, Sheema, among others which have been the major banana baskets for the entire country.
