1 Injured, 2 UN Personnel Killed In Jonglei State

ampoule geneva; font-size: small; line-height: 200%;”>The three soldiers, order members of the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISSfor sale geneva; font-size: small; line-height: 200%;”>) Indian Battalion, were attacked yesterday during an attack on the base in Akobo Town in Jonglei State.

“We call on all parties to the crisis to refrain from further violence and seek a peaceful resolution to the crisis,” the Mission said in a statement strongly condemning the attack and the continued violence in parts of the country.

The UN has sent aircraft early this morning to evacuate some UN personnel from the base which perimeter had been breached yesterday by apparent ethnic Lou Nuer youth intent on reaching the civilians inside.

There are indications that civilians have been killed and wounded in the attack.


In a statement, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that should these reports prove true, “those responsible must be held accountable for their crimes.”
