A number of residents of Bufundi and Muko sub counties in the newly created Rubanda district are homeless after heavy rains swept away their houses and injured some of them.

The injured were identified as Robert Turyatunga, 35, and Kasole Ngabirano, 30, both residents of Makatara cell in Ikamiro parish. The two are now admitted at Muko Health Center IV.
Turyatunga and Ngabirano who are traders are said to have been trying to save their merchandise from destruction.
Dezi Senzoga, the Matakara cell chairperson says the rains lasted about five hours and destroyed gardens of cabbages, beans Irish potatoes and onion nursery beds.
Senzoga says 6 of the destroyed houses contained shops, five contained bars; one contained a saloon while others were residential.
Keneth Biryabareema Jogo the Rubanda LC5 boss says that that the road connecting Muko to Bufundi, Butanda and Katuna was still blocked by huge stones and unusable.
Judith Turyasasirwa,the Rubanda Chief Administrative Officer said the district was aware of the problem but could not intervene with its current financial constraints.
She noted however that they would help make sure that the blocked roads are opened.
