“We don’t want to see another market cropping up at Park Yard without safety fire requirements; if we do that, then we are already preparing for another fire,” Bwanika warned.

Bwanika further observed that it is upon the incumbent government, police and KCCA to ensure that proper fire safety standards are put in every market place to allow easy fire control in case of any outbreaks.
“We are very concerned that KCCA and police have failed to learn for the past to ensure safety of people and property who are always making similar excuses of lack of fire ways within the markets and yet they are responsible for creating the same,” Bwanika noted.
Bwanika advised police to put in place water points and fire centers at market places which are prone to fire outbreaks.
“We are wondering why the Ugandan police does not station fire vehicles within the markets; those vehicles are not supposed to be at Fire Brigade headquarters but in places where fire is anticipated,” Bwanika added.
Fire Brigade vehicles arrived an hour later and found the market already burnt to the ground
Several markets have of recent been refurbished to the modern standards which include the newly opened up Wandgeya market and Usafi market.
