Some firms like M/s Amman Industrial Tools & Equipment Ltd and their directors Mr. Mohinder Singh Chal, Nishita Maini, Rajaserakan Arjun and Andrew Kyangwa have been suspended indefinitely for causing USD1.7m financial loss to the Government of Uganda.
This followed the botched procurement of Local Council 1 chairpersons’ bicycles.
The suspension means they will are not allowed to ever do any business with government entities in Uganda.
According to a statement seen by Chimpreports on Wednesday, all firms and their directors or representatives were given a hearing and a chance to defend themselves before the suspension is effected.
The PPDA is mandated to ensure the application of fair, competitive, transparent, non-discriminatory and value for money procurement and disposal standards and practices in doing business with government.
It is also tasked to harmonize the procurement and disposal policy systems and practices of Central Government, Local Governments and Statutory bodies; and set standards for the public procurement and disposal systems in Uganda.
The PPDA also monitors compliance of procuring and disposing entities and also builds procurement and disposal capacity in Uganda.
Some of the companies were penalized for submitting forged bid securities, failure to complete works in time, failure to fulfill contractual obligations; abandoning the site; and causing financial loss to the Government.
