search geneva;”>The District Police Commander, Musani Michael sabila, has told ChimpReports that cases of mobile money frauds are rapidly increasing in Kasese town with police registering about ten-related cases weekly.
“The fraudsters have embarked on sending convincing text messages to mobile money users indicating that they have received a huge sum of money or promotional items like motorcycles and TV sets from telecommunication companies. In this process, people have been conned a lot of money,” Musani narrated.
Musani said police can only help if a mobile money user alerts them in time to enbale them link up with the telecommunication company to trap the fraudster.
The DPC asked the residents of Kasese town to work closely with police in reporting and alerting them on such cases.
“Police cannot manage to put at every mobile money agent a police officer,” Musani regretted.
