140 Women Register For ‘Miss Curvy’ Contest

Anne Mungoma the Chief Executive officer of the ‘Miss Curvy’ Uganda has said that 140 women have so far applied for the contest.

Mungoma expressed her disappointment towards the negativity that people are attaching to the beauty contest, saying it’s aimed at appreciating beauty queens with the Natural plus size.

“This is a beauty pageant for the natural plus size which we must embrace and appreciate. We want the beauty queens to express themselves and change the prospection that a beauty queen must be size Zero”.

She also added that the event is meant to show the world that Uganda is endowed with natural African Women who can promote tourism as well.

“When Tourists come to see the Karamojong and Batwa, does that mean they are up for sale? Curvaceous women are eye catching people unless they are suggesting pageants are only for slim people,” she said.

She urged all those that are against the initiative to see the good in it and stop criticizing and misinterpreting it all the time.

“The whole miss curvy contest has been Miss understood, but we want to a sure you that it’s only a beauty pageant to empower the curvy women.”

The ‘Curvy’ Women pageant is a private sector led initiative that was launched by Hon. Godfrey Kiwanda Suubi the State Minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, which caused a backlash as many said it was introducing sex tourism to the country.
