A 12-year-old boy was on Wednesday killed by floods which followed the heavy rains that hit parts of Nyabushenyi Sub County in Ntungamo district.
The deceased has been identified as Rodgers Agaba who was living with a guardian Kirabo Magambo in Nyakisa village, Nyabushenyi Sub County.
The boy is said to have been swept away by the floods while he grazed cattle near Omukatojo Trading Center in.
Locals say when it started raining, Agaba found shelter in a nearby house in the Trading center but later realised that the cattle had approached a garden to destroy crops.
The then braved the rain to chase the cows from the garden but as he approached the garden, running waters washed him away.
One of the locals says he made and alarm and locals tried to chase after and save the boy but were too late.
The body was found later deposited in in a nearby farm.
The rains also destroyed gardens in Bukamba, Kinoni, Nyakisa, Kakoki, and Rwembogo cells.
Eric Kazigaaba, the Bukamba village Chairperson in Nyabushenyi Sub County said t the heavy rains also washed away Ahakishenyi (Runyamunyu) bridge which connects Nyabihoko Sub County to Nyabushenyi Sub County through Kigarama and Bukamba cells.
This in effect cut off the 27km Bukamba-Kakoki-Nyakisa road forcing lorries carrying bananas to park in Bukamba Trading Center with no way out to market places especially to Rwashameire town.
Kazigaaba asked the Ntungamo district works department to intervene quickly and work on the bridge.
