My name is Thomas Buyombo, was born here in Uganda 27 years ago in Masindi District.

I am a second child out of three in our family.

I am currently working with Rwanda police Hospital as a medical Doctor.

CR: When did you start your singing career?

Tom Close: I recorded my first song eight years ago but previously I used to sing.

L-R: Diddy Brown, Gift giftorius, Tom Close and Dj Kagz

I started singing when I was in P4 in 1995 with Don Bosco church Kimihurura choir but when i entered the secondary school at Kiziguro secondary school; i joined the Kiziguro Anglican church choir.

When I was studying Bio-Chemistry at Lycée de Kigali, I used to sing in Prince of Peace choir of St Etienne Anglican church up to 2006.

During my vacation in 2005,I was working with an organization, Seeds of Peace. I was joined by Ben, my cousin, other two boys and a girl called Dorcus and we created a group called Afro-Saints group.

We recorded five songs which were not famous in 2006 up to late 2007.

In November 2007 I recorded my first single helped by Ben and the song is called “Mbwira”.

I then started working on my first “KUKI” which was launched on 16th May 2008.

Tom Close: I have five albums. My first one is called Kuki which I produced in 2008.

The other albums are, Subeza, Ntubanyurwa, Komeza Utsinde and the latest being Mbabariara Ugaruke.

I don’t have a specific genre of music that I sing but I can categorise my music as afro beat, Dancehall and RnB with an African style.

I have done collabos with various artists like Knowless and Sean kingstone.

CR: Compare music industries of Uganda and Rwanda.

Tom Close: The music industry of Uganda is mature. It has many artists with good songs and even there is a lot of money in Uganda’s music industry.

The music industry of Rwanda is young and fresh but it is growing at a faster rate compared to Uganda’s.

I think in the next 5 years, Rwanda music industry will be far and will have grown because all the artists are promising.

CR: Do you sing under any Label?

Tom Close: Yes I am in a music label called Kina music. It is a big label and it also manages artists like Knowless Butera, Dream Boys, Jay Polly Christopher and many others.
