“Men have failed to accompany their wives for antenatal care in the hospital,” he lamented.
This was during the dissemination training of the elimination of mother-to-child HIV/AIDs transmission which will be officially launched in Lira district on June 28 by the First Lady, Janet Museveni for the entire northern region.
Mr Okao challenged the district leaders to be the agents of change by accompanying their pregnant spouses to the hospital so that the mother-to-child HIV/AIDs transmission can be eliminated.
The Gulu district Health Officer, Dr Paul Onek further noted that the district’s Health Department is interested in blocking new infections and is encouraging voluntary counseling, safe male circumcision among other practices.
“I would advise you even councilors to spearhead this motive by knowing your HIV status because it is very important,” added Dr Onek.
