Museveni To Attend University Of East Africa Golden Jubilee

It was however split into three independent universities of Makerere, University of Nairobi and University of Dar es salaam in 1970 all of whose courses at that time led to general degrees from the University of London.

University sources told Chimpreports on Saturday that the golden jubilee celebrations are slated for Sunday, June 29, 2013 at the campus main hall and President Yoweri Museveni is expected as guest of honor.

With support from UNESCO and the Swedish Embassy, the function has been projected to pull crowds, mainly alumni from both within and across the region.

Chimpreports also learnt that celebrated Kenyan Writer Ngugi wa Thiong’o will deliver the Key note address under the theme; “50 years of education development: prospects for the future.”


The 75-year-old is part of Makerere University’s strong alumni having joined in the early 60’s in pursuit of a Bachelor of Arts in English, during which his famous play ‘The Black Hermit’ was produced in Kampala in 1962.

The founder and editor of Gikuyu language Journal Mutiiri fled his country and sought refuge in the United States where he has since taught Comparative Literature in Yale University and New York University.
