Deputy Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, told Chimpreports on Sunday that Todwong was robbed alongside two others.
“The Minister was in company of his two friends – David Okello and Bosco Odoch travelling in a Land Cruiser brand car registration number UAS 423N at the time of the ambush,” said Onyango.
He added the assailants were fully armed with AK 47 assault rifles.
Todwong lost shs850, 000; two cell phones and personal documents to the thugs.
Okello’s Nokia and Blackberry brand phones; Shs60, 000 and black shoes were not spared while Odoch lost three mobile phones and shs520, 000.
“We are investigating the incident to apprehend the suspects to face the courts of law. But we appreciate the Minister for leaving the bodyguards behind well knowing the security situation is calm and peaceful. That’s why he decided to move at that time without them,” said Onyango.
Before being appointed special presidential advisor in 2006, Todwong had earlier served as the Commissioner of the Constitutional Revenue Commission; a Revenue Officer at Uganda Revenue Authority and Guild Speaker at Makerere University.
Police are yet to hold suspects.
The incident points to increased gun-related crimes in the country.
Todwong was not readily available for comment.
