Lukwago Petition: Tumwebaze Sets Up Commission Of Inquiry

advice geneva;”>Prior to this commission 17 Kampala Capital City Authority councilors had filed a petition seeking for the ousting of the mayor for alleged misconduct, shop abuse of office and incompetence.

“Pursuant to section 12 of the Kampala Capital City Act, 2010, and after due consultations with the Attorney General and Chief Justice of Uganda I have appointed the following persons to constitute the Tribunal that shall inquire into the allegations against the Lord Mayor,” said Tumwebaze.

“The tribunal will have Hon. Lady Justice Catherine Bamugemereire as the chairperson, Mrs. J.A Ocaya Lakidi and Mr Alfred Okello Oryem as members,”’ noted Tumwebaze.

He, therefore, stressed that the tribunal that will start work immediately is to present a report within 60 days.

“I hope the petitioners and the Lord Mayor shall accord the necessary and due cooperation to the tribunal to help investigate the allegations in the petition,’’ noted Tumwebaze.

The Kampala minister, however, noted that the Lord Mayor may not leave his office during the process of the investigations because the law doesn’t stipulate that.

Lukwago contends the petition was instigated by his nemesis and KCCA Executive Director, Jennifer Musisi. The pair’s wrangling has affected the performance and service delivery of KCCA.
