The Kampala Metropolitan FDC chairman, Livingstone Kizito told journalists on Monday that Khalwa contested in the recent party elections with other three candidates before emerging winner.

The nominations for candidates are taking place today and Khalwa will be facing Zaidi Ziwa of Democratic Party, Dr. Patrick Lodoyi Mutono of National Resistance Movement Party among others.

Kizito called for electoral reforms in the country including constituting an independent Electoral commission and having electronic and print versions of voters registers to ensure transparent, free and fair election in the country.

Meanwhile, Democratic Party’s flag bearer for Butebo County by-elections, Zaidi is former chairman of Forum for Democratic Party in Kakolo sub-county.

He earlier on told journalists on a press that he deserted the FDC ticket because the party had no reasonable roots to trace and poor grass root structures.

The Butebo County by-elections in Pallisa District are scheduled to take place on June 6, 2013.

The nomination period for the candidates started today May 13 and will end on May 18 where members of the general public will have access to the candidates’ nomination papers and be able to lodge complaints if any on suitability of the candidates to contest in the by-election.
