City Oilers 93-46 Savio

The reigning Zone Five Basketball Champions City Oilers (Uganda) started their title campaign with an impressive display in a 47 point game victory past Savio of Tanzania.

Coming into this encounter at the back of a league defeat against Betway Power, the hosts looked a much changed side with some new additions.

Stanley Ocitti, Adarius Pegues, Mayes Jordin, Opong Robinson and Assistant coach Omar Abdulqader Rajab (Yemen) were added on the team’s roster.

Coached by Mandy Juruni, Oilers rushed to a 24-14 victory in the first quarter before increasing their lead to 30 points with a 49-19 lead at the long break.

The Tanzanian side who rotated their squad with 7 players, their performance continued to deteriorate as the Oilers scored 17 and 27 points in the following quarters to eventually seal a 93-46 victory.

Silverbacks Captain had an outstanding performance on the day with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists but it was the visitor’s Amini Mkosa who led the way with 19 points.

City Oilers the team to beat

City Oilers who defeated Kenya’s Ulinzi with a 72-49 victory to clinch last edition’s crown, entered this season’s campaign as the team to beat.

The team has added strong performers who upped the game’s tempo, only Jordin Mayes failed to impress the crowd as the new recruit got injured having played only 5 minutes on the court.

City Oilers who are in Pool A, will today face off with Hawasa before playing Patriots on Tuesday.
