NBL: KIU Out to End A1 Challenger’s Winning Streak

Ladies: KIU Rangers vs A1 Challenge, 6pm.

It is a tricky tie as 8th placed KIU Rangers take on A1 Challengers in the Ladies’ National Basketball League game today at the MTN indoor Arena, Lugogo.

On the standings, both teams are level on points with 10 apiece; however, the Challengers have played 3 matches less compared to the Rangers.

Having lost their top players in Dorothy Kyamazima, Rachael Nanyonga and Birungi Desire before the season’s start, the Challengers started the season poorly, losing their opening two games to Defending Champions UCU lady Canons and 4 time winners KCCA leopards.

Since then, the song has changed as the team has found the right tune to their lyrics, winning 4 consecutive games; Lioness, Javon ladies, Gladiators and Magic Stormers have all been torn apart in the process.

Their last encounter on court was like a cinderella story, they only managed just 2 points in the first quarter before taking a 7 point deficit into the long break.

The team fought back with improved performances from Elizabeth Akol, Vicky Ntale and Charline Kirungi to take a 2 point lead with just seconds on the clock before Stormers’ Rose Akon missed a free throw to force overtime.

The Rangers come into this encounter at the back of 6 defeats from their 8 league games this season and they hope to stand firm and run riot against the 2005 champions.

KIU Rangers two victories have come against Gladiators and Lioness, and the team must double their efforts if they stand a chance of upsetting the odds today.
