Gen Kayihura to Mumbere: Restrain Your Men from Fighting Gov’t

In the same meeting, Warriors now referred to as Pemba Warriors confirmed two appointments to the technical committee of Mimi Mirembe as team physio and Sam Obol as the team coach.

Businessman Jackson Pemba was elated in signing the partnership and was quoted saying that he will double the package to ten years at a tune of UgX 2.5 Billion up from 1.25 billion.

“Pemba Sports Africa is a company that I started to promote Ugandan sports within framework of existing sports establishment, teams and individuals. Basketball is one of the fastest growing spectator sports in Uganda because of the amazing talents the players possess.”

Pemba also revealed that the partnership will see the two work together and support armchair basketball as part of community social responsibility (CSR).

The basketball season is expected to tee off in May.

Mumbere said his subjects are peace loving people who would not at anytime attempt to cause violence be it political or tribal in Kasese and Rwenzori region at large.

Mumbere made the remarks on Thursday after meeting Kayihura during a security meeting in Kasese.

Mumbere blamed the police and some state agents of tarnishing the Rwenzururu kingdom image over their selfish gains.

He strongly condemned last Friday’s attacks in Buhuhira and Hima sub counties that left six people died and six security officers severely injured.

Mumbere demanded an apology from the IGP for accusing the Rwenzururu kingdom of leading the militia group (Kirumiramuthuthima) blamed for the killings.


Kayihura recently said the militia’s roots could be traced to the Rwenzururu kingdom’s doorstep.

Kayihura however defended government on its cooperation with the Rwenzururu kingdom but noted police cannot run away from its stand that there are some bad elements within the kingdom fighting government.

Kayihura therefore appealed to Mumbere to prevail over his subjects and ask them to always settle their grievances in a peaceful manner.

In the meeting, Mumbere was accompanied by the Obusinga Prime Minister Hon. Thembo Kitsumbire and the kingdom Attorney General Thembo Godfrey Bigogo among other kingdom officials.
