CCEDU,'s Crispy Kaheeru
The Citizens' Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (CCEDU) has appealed to government to prioritize and popularize the oncoming local council elections.
Crispy Kaheru the Coordinator CCEDU stressed that Local Councils which have been ignored for more than a decade, are an essential part of society.
He noted that Local councils help in holding families societies together mainly through their arbitration roles.
While addressing the media on Thursday at their head offices in Kampala, Kaheru noted with concern that the relevant Government bodies are not indicating the importance of the local councils and the impending elections.
“The discussions that have been going on between the Electoral Commission, Parliament of Uganda and the Ministry of Finance do not clearly indicate that these elections are important”
CCEDU therefore appealed to parliament to critically review the Local government amendment Act and also use the system of voting recommended by this Act and not changing it to system of lining up behind the candidates during the LC elections.
