Traders at EM plaza have barricaded Kampala road, protesting the power outage.

Umeme publicist Henry Rugambwa says their engineers identified the broken cable on Monday, adding, robust reparations have been underway to rapidly restore power to the affected building.

“Whenever an underground cable is damaged, we first patrol the area to identify the visible fault. Then we move to the invisible part but this takes some time since we have to excavate before carrying out repairs,” said Rugambwa.

He further assured power would be restored on Wednesday afternoon.

Kampala District Police Commander James Ruhweza tells Chimp Corp Nixon Segawa they have deployed heavily to maintain law and order.

“The situation is now calm. Umeme have promised that they will fix the outage in the next few hours so we are appealing for patience,” said Ruhweza.
