In an appointment instrument dated June 10,  “Prof. Henk G. Sol by the virtue of the authority entrusted to him as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of UTAMU appointed Hon. Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka the Chancellor of UTAMU for a period of four years with effect from June 10, 2013.”

Kalonzo will now be the titular head of the University and as such shall preside at all ceremonies of the University and in the name of UTAMU, confer degrees and other academic titles and distinctions of Uganda.

The Kenyan politician will also be mandated to appoint the Vice Chancellor and Deputy Vice Chancellors of the new University on terms and conditions set by the University Council; and promote the (image of the) University regionally and internationally.

“He should also be ambitious, inspirational, and optimistic; with unquestioned integrity as a sine qua non and skilled in diplomacy and multi-tasking and who can communicate the vision of the university and promote it in all ceremonies of the University and at other ceremonies and functions where the Chancellor shall be present,” said Baryamureeba on Saturday morning.
