Museveni Sacks Gen Aronda In new Army Shake-up

Aronda is now the new Internal Affairs minister taking over from Hillary Onek

Former Commander of Land Forces Lt Gen Katumba Wamala is the new Army Commander and has been promoted to the rank of General.

Katumba will be deputized by Charles Angina who has been elevated to Lieutenant General.

Angina has replaced Lt Gen Ivan Koreta who was appointed an ambassador.

The changes were announced on Thursday at 11pm in a radio message to all army units.

Army Spokesman Lt Col. Paddy Ankunda was not readily available for comment.

Other changes include Maj. Gen Fred Mugisha assumes the new role of chief of National Counter-terrorism Agency.

Museveni also promoted his former ADC Wilson Mbadi to the rank of Maj. Gen and appointed him the new Joint Chief of Staff, as Maj. Gen Charles Muhoozi takes over as the new Land Forces Commander


Former Military Intelligence boss and Chief of Personnel and Administration Brig. Leopold Kyanda is the new Chief of Staff Land Forces while Col. Kanyesigye is the new 4th division Commander. Brig. Turyagyenda was promoted to Maj. Gen and confirmed as the Air Force Chief

The restructuring comes against the backdrop of UPDF High Command meeting at state house, Entebbe
